David Cook Jr. was also known as David Cook Sr. sometimes, when he had a son and named him David also. I have simplified by having a Sr., Jr. and a II. I hope this helps everyone else. This David Cook might have been born in Chester, Morris County, NJ and not Southampton, NY. He had a brother, Jonathan, who was born in 1754 and we have the information that he was born in Southampton, so it could have been there also. They apparently moved from Long Island, NY to NJ at some point near the Revolutionary War.
David Cook Jr.'s first wife was Mary, last name unknown. He married again to Alice Butler, in 1819.
According to narrative from Elmira, NY expert, David Cook Jr. was the son of David and Hannah Topping Cook. They moved to Roxbury, Morris County, NJ. At the age of 24 he enlisted (Sept. 1776) at Roxbury during the American Revolution as a private in Captain Nathan Luse's Company, Western Regiment, Morris County Militia. In the fall of 1777 he was an ensign in Captain Stephen Brown's Company. He participated in the skirmish at Chatham Bridge, NJ and the Elizabethtown Point in June 1778. He conveyed recruits from the First Regiment to the camp at Tappan in 1780. He signed a petition to the legislature, dated April 22, 1783, in which he claimed service in the Morris County Militia during the war and requested the Government to sell the western lands to reduce taxes.
In January, 1789, he sold his blacksmith shop and removed to the Wyoming Valley in Pennsylvania. David removed in 1790 (in the Colonel Elezer Lindsley party of about 40 people) to Erwin, Steuben County, NY. That portion later became Lindley - May 12, 1837. His brothers Samuel and Jonathan accompanied him or came soon after. His first habitation was built of logs on the east bank of the Tioga River. David's wife, Mary, born circa 1753 and died March 28, 1816 (66 Years) and is buried at Lindley, NY. David married April 22, 1819 Alice Stocking Butler, a widow with children, at Painted Post, Steuben County, NY. He removed from Lindley to neighboring Lawrence Township, Tioga County, PA, and then to Woodhull, Steuben County, NY, where he was living in 1832 when he applied for a pension. One record relates he removed to Woodhull in 1819, but perhaps this date is too early. His farm was near the village of Woodhull on the Jasper Road. At the age of 80, David applied for a pension (October 17, 1832) for his service in the Revolutionary War in order to obtain the benefit of the act of Congress passed June 7, 1832. David gave considerable testimony of his military service and the officers and engagements he was involved in. He related that he resided at Roxbury, NJ during and after the war, moved to "Wyoming in Pennsylvania, then to Painted Post, Steuben County, NY, then to Lawrenceville, Tioga County, PA, then to Woodhull, Steuben County, NY where he now resides." David signed his name. The pension was granted at the rate of $240 per year. A portion of the family bible was included with the pension application and reads as follows:
David Cook was born in the year 1752 Oct 1st.
Mary Cook was born 175?
Mary Cook departed this Life March 28th, 1816.
THIS BIBLE IS THE PROPERTY OF DAVID COOK SENR 1814
David Cook was marryed to Alice Butler April 22, 1819
David died March 9, 1841, Town of Woodhull, tombstone in Five Corners Cemetary. Alice was living, April 29, 1853, when she applied for a widow's pension, age 79. She signed an affidavit, March 14, 1855, age 81, residence Woodhull. David and his first wife Mary are related to have had seven sons and one daughter.

David came to Lindley, NY with Colonel Eleazar Lindsley (1737-1794).
Colonel Lindsley is buried in the cemetary named after him on Route 15.
He was a Lieutenant Colonel in the Revolutionary War with the Jersey Blues. He emigrated from Morristown, NJ in 1790. David came with him.
I visited Five Corners Cemetary in August, 1993, and found the tombstone for David. He was 88 y, 5 m, 8 d. There were 3 graves right near his with Cook names. They were Sallie Cook ( b 1804 d 1877) and Minta M. Cook (b.1868 d. 1868, aged 5 m, 2 d) and Sary L. Cook (b. 1872 d. 1873, aged 1 y, 3 m.) These possibly could have been granddaughters.
